We are thrilled to announce we have funded an additional 10,000 MAMA Academy Wellbeing Wallets for NHS trusts: Doncaster and Shrewsbury and Telford. This brings our total up to 36,100 wallets funded so far.
The Wellbeing Wallets are an initiative set up by MAMA Academy and are robust plastic zip lock pouches to keep expectant mum’s antenatal notes safe. They are given by midwives at their booking in appointment and are printed front and back with key health messages to help have a safer pregnancy.
The Wellbeing Wallets are a research trial, part of NHS England’s national stillbirth strategy and will determine whether empowering women with the relevant signs and symptoms messages will reduce stillbirth.
The information contained on the wallets complements the work of NHS England’s Saving Babies’ Lives care bundle currently in development, and is in line with the new safer pregnancy messaging by Sands and Department of Health. The wallets are also supported by The Royal College of Midwives.
Teddy’s Wish have so far funded wallets for the following NHS Trusts:
Chelsea and Westminster
St.Helens and Knowsley
Sadly, more than half of UK stillbirths could have been prevented with the right care. We hope by educating expectant mothers and midwives with simple messaging we will help to reduce the numbers of babies lost each year.
